Privacy Policy

Who is responsible

Newcord is operated independently. Its operator controls the server, database, and storage and decides how long information is kept and which services are enabled. Contact the operator about information held by Newcord.

Information handled by the service

To provide accounts and communication features, the instance may store or process:

  • Account details such as your username, profile, email address or phone number if you provide one, and authentication and security settings.
  • Messages, files, reactions, relationships, server memberships, and other content and settings you create or receive.
  • Connection and device information, including session identifiers, approximate location, and IP address used to sign in or connect.
  • Information needed to prevent abuse, enforce rules, troubleshoot problems, and operate the service.

The operator's hosting provider and infrastructure may also process connection data. The exact information depends on the instance configuration and services the operator uses.

How information is used and shared

Information is used to authenticate accounts, deliver messages and other features, maintain security, moderate the service, and respond to support or legal requests. Content is shared with the recipients and audiences you choose in the service.

Optional integrations, email delivery, storage providers, and user-requested link previews may involve other services. Which services are contacted depends on the operator's settings and the features you use. Those providers process information under their own practices. Ask the operator which integrations are enabled on Newcord.

Encryption

New direct and group direct messages and their attachments are end-to-end encrypted. Guild-channel messages are not end-to-end encrypted, and earlier messages remain unencrypted. In the default trusted-server mode, the server can recover encryption keys, so this mode does not protect message contents from the instance operator. Encryption is an alpha feature and has not been independently audited. Do not rely on it as the only protection for sensitive information.

Retention and your choices

Information is kept for as long as the operator needs it to run the instance, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or maintain backups. Retention periods for server logs and backups vary by operator. Deleting an account or content through the service may not immediately remove copies in backups, logs, or other systems that already received the information.

You can manage some profile, privacy, and session settings in the service. For a copy, correction, or deletion request, contact the instance operator. Whether a request can be fulfilled and how quickly depends on the information, applicable law, and the operator's retention and backup practices.

Security and changes

The operator uses the safeguards available in its deployment but cannot promise that any online service or stored information is completely secure. Do not send information here that you would not want the operator or an authorized administrator to access. This notice may be updated as the instance or its configuration changes.
